2019 Veterans/Active Duty fly fishing class

On Sunday, April 14, 2019, we held a fly fishing 101 class for veterans and active duty members of the military. This event was a joint event put on by FTTU, The North Branch Boys Fly Fishing Club, and the Merickel-Farley Trout Club. The class was well received and we had a good turnout. The weather unfortunately did not cooperate and we had 45 mph+ wind gusts with 40 degree temps, and it was raining horizontally. We were able to get through all of the classroom material, had lunch for the students and volunteers (who all showed up in spite of the weather!), did some indoor casting with a practice rod, and elected not to go outside to fish and fight the wind. All the students were given a guest pass to Merickel-Farley and invited back to try their hand at fishing the lake on a better day.
